ST. BONAVENTURE, NY-- With two outs and one on, junior infielder Katie Terrazas hit a two-run home run over the left field, wall putting the GW softball team up 2-0 in the third inning.

The Colonials (5-25, 2-8 A-10) added a third run when sophomore Jordyn O'Donnell led off the fourth inning with a double. Amanda Zakeri, running for O'Donnell, advanced to third on a ground out by Lauren Wilson and scored off Elaine Nescio's bunt single.

St. Bonaventure (7-14, 2-6 A-10) got one run on the board in the bottom of the fourth on two hits and a Colonial error.

GW added an insurance run in the seventh with Jillian Stanley leading off with a double to left field. Kristi Saporito came in to pinch run for Stanley, scoring on the next at-bat by Jamie Yaniga, who reached base on an error by SBU's second baseman. Yaniga made it to third on a Terrazas flyout, but was caught stealing at home.

The Bonnies made it interesting in the bottom of the seventh, getting a lead off triple. Colonials' game two starter Kara Clauss gave up two runs in the inning on four hits, but got out of the inning to win GW's second Atlantic 10 game of the season.

In game one, Colonials starter Elaine Nescio battled from the rubber with the Bonnies' starter Sherri Thompson. Three hits were allowed between the two pitchers; two doubles, combined with three errors, given up by Nescio allowed St. Bonaventure the 1-0 win.

 

 

The Colonials host area rival George Mason on Wednesday, April 14 at Mount Vernon Softball Field for one game beginning at 4:00 p.m. GW returns to Atlantic 10 Conference play against Fordham at The Vern, Friday, April 16 at 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 17, at noon.
