Softball Drops Doubleheader To James Madison

HARRISONBURG, VA - The George Washington Colonials dropped their non-conference doubleheader to the James Madison Dukes on Thursday afternoon at the JMU Softball Complex. GW dropped the first game, 3-0, and fell 8-0 in game two. With a single up the middle in the second game, junior Jackie Yaniga became the third player in GW history to record 100 career base hits. Yaniga went 2-6 in the doubleheader.

The Colonials only mustered six base hits in the doubleheader off James Madison pitchers, Meredith Felts and Jenny Clohan. The Dukes came into the game, 29th in the nation with a 1.72 ERA, while Clohan was ranked 25th individually with a 1.21 ERA.

Katie Miller had a solid performance in the circle for GW in the opener allowing just three runs in six innings. Miller struck out three and did not allow a walk on the day. In the second game, junior Jen Hrycyna made her first start of the season and allowed four earned runs in 2.2 innings of work. Junior Lisa Cohen pitched three innings in relief and allowed just one run on six hits.

The Colonials (17-16, 4-6 A-10) return to action on Saturday, April 14, when they host conference rival, St. Bonaventure in a 12:00 pm doubleheader.
