LEWISBURG, PA - The George Washington Softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader, 7-0 and 8-0, to Bucknell on Wednesday, April 16 in Lewisburg, PA. The loss drops the Colonials record to 2-25 on the season.

The Colonials got off to a good start in game one after freshman Elana Meyers (Douglasville, GA/Lithia Springs) singled to start the game, but things went downhill from there. Meyers was put out on a sacrifice attempt by senior Edna Coonan (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) and the Colonials could mount no more offense against Bucknell pitcher Lauren Box.

Bucknell broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with two runs. The Bison broke the game wide open with a five run sixth inning. The Colonials could only manage one more hit during the game, a double by freshman Erica Heikel (Duluth, MN/Duluth Central), and the game ended with a Bucknell victory, 7-0.

In game two, GW threatened in the top of the second after consecutive singles by senior Alison Scimeca (Latham, NY/Shaker) and sophomore Maggie Landgrebe (Malverne, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), but the Colonials could not get on the scoreboard.

Bucknell took advantage by scoring three runs in the bottom of the second. The Bison closed the door on GW when they added two more runs in both the third and fourth innings. Bucknell added another run in the bottom of the fifth to hand the Colonials their 25th loss of the season, 8-0.

The Colonials will try to break their losing streak when they take on George Mason in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 22 at the GW-Mount Vernon Softball Field.
