April 18, 2008
WASHINGTON, DC - Junior Tori Sensi went 2-2 on the day but it was not enough as the Charlotte 49ers defeated the George Washington Colonials, 8-0 in five innings at the Mount Vernon Softball Complex Friday afternoon.
In what looked like a pitchers duel after two innings became anything but, as Charlotte exploded for five runs thanks to three GW errors and four hits. All five runs scored in the inning were unearned.
The 49ers added another run in the fourth on three hits, which proved to be the final inning pitched by sophomore hurler Amanda Gabriel (7-14).
Senior Katie Miller recorded the only other Colonials hit on the day as her and Sensi hit consecutive singles to start the fifth inning.
Katy Hackett (12-11) picked up the win for Charlotte (26-22, 8-3 A-10) as she allowed just a walk and three hits.
Gabriel got the loss allowing just one earned run on eight hits, while striking out five.
GW (8-22, 4-7 A-10) hosts Charlotte again tomorrow in a 12:00 pm start at the Mount Vernon Softball Complex.
