Hawks Homer the Difference in 1-0 Loss for Colonials
April 24, 2010
VILLANOVA, PA-- GW softball dropped game two of a two-day Atlantic 10 series against Saint Joseph's 1-0, Saturday afternoon. The Colonials fell to 5-33 overall, 2-12 in the Atlantic 10, while the Hawks improve to 21-14, 5-5 on the season. GW threatened to score right from the beginning in a game that turned out to be a pitcher's duel, as Katie Terrazas hit a double to the left center gap with two outs in the first inning. Colonials starting pitcher Elaine Nescio walked two Hawks batters in the bottom of the inning, but Nescio was able to get the other Hawks batters to fly out without any runs crossing the plate. GW got runners on in the third inning, again with two outs already in the inning. Lauren Wilson got a base hit, while Amanda Holst was hit by a pitch in her at-bat. Both runners were left stranded. In the fourth inning, Saint Joseph's Brooke Darreff hit a lead off solo homerun as the only run Nescio would allow in the game. Nescio threw six innings, allowed four hits, walked three and struck out one. The Colonials will continue on the road on Sunday, facing Temple for two A-10 match-ups beginning at noon.
