PHILADELPHIA, PA - Freshman Katie Terrazas smoked a two-out double in the top of the eighth inning to give the George Washington softball team a pivotal 2-0 Atlantic 10 victory over Temple Friday afternoon at the Owls' Ambler Sports Complex. GW improved to 9-25 overall and 5-8 in the Atlantic 10 conference.

Tied at zero going into extra innings, the Colonials were able to finally get on the board and earn the victory. Redshirt sophomore led off the inning with a single and advanced to third as sophomore Amanda Holst reached on a fielder's choice and an error by the shortstop. Senior Caroline Howe, who made her first start of the season, popped out in her first at-bat of the year. Classmate Chrysanthi Halkiotis, who broke out of her hitting slump earlier in the game, was plunked by an offering by Owls pitcher Katie Burdeaux to load the bases. After junior Tori Sensi flew out to right, Terrazas drilled a two-run double to score Van Kirk and Holst.

Sophomore pitcher Amanda Gabriel concluded a dominating performance by retiring the side in the eighth, including striking out two in the frame. In Gabriel's eighth win of the season, the native of Fullerton, CA struck out 11 batters and allowed just five hits. The right-hander did not walk a batter on the day. She did not allow a runner past second base on the day.

Terrazas led GW offensively with a pair of hits, including her game-winning double. Van Kirk also had two hits on the day, while Halkiotis and Gabriel chipped in with hits.

The same two teams meet tomorrow afternoon in another key conference game at 12:00 pm at Ambler Sports Complex.
