WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington Colonials Softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader versus Fordham on Senior Day at the GW-Mount Vernon Softball Field on Sunday, April 27. The losses drop the Colonials overall record to 3-30 and 0-12 in the Atlantic 10.

If not for some fielding issues in game one, the Colonials would have played the Rams close up until Fordham broke the game open in the top of the fifth. GW had a difficult time with Fordham pitcher Michelle Schlichtig who ended up pitching a perfect game.

Fordham got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first and two more in the top of the second thanks to three of the five Colonials' errors. GW was unable to mount any offense and the Rams took advantage with an eight-run fifth, highlighted by a tape-measure shot by Fordham designated player Jaime Giguere. Fordham went on to take the first game in five innings, 12-0.

The second game started off the same as the first with Fordham jumping out in front with two runs in the top of the first. But, this time GW answered with a run of their own on an RBI single by senior Sammi Sordi (Boothwyn, PA/Chichester). The score remained 2-1 until Fordham added two more runs in the top of the fourth.

The Colonials tried to fight back and picked up a run in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to 4-2, but the Rams added three more runs in the top of the seventh to secure the 7-2 victory.

The Colonials will try and get back in the win column when they play a doubleheader versus Maryland on Tuesday, April 29 at 5:00 p.m. in College Park, MD.
