Colonials fall to 49ers, 3-0, in Home A-10 Match-up

WASHINGTON - In game one of a two-day series against Atlantic 10 rival Charlotte, The George Washington softball team fell 3-0, on Friday afternoon. Colonials' (5-36, 2-15 A-10) starter Kara Clauss tossed three and one-third innings, allowing only one 49ers (36-13, 13-2 A-10) run in the first inning, and three hits total. Clauss struck out four and walked two. Charlotte pitcher Emily Jeffery didn't allow a GW hit until the seventh inning with two outs, when senior Elisa Van Kirk doubled up the middle. Jeffery walked three and struck out 12 Colonials in the complete game outing. GW relief pitcher freshman Elaine Nescio threw three and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs on five hits. Nescio also struck out three and walked one. The Colonials will take on the 49ers for game two of the series at noon on Saturday at Mount Vernon Field. Saturday will also be the GW Thinks Pink Game to help raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. Pink t-shirts, wrist bands, pins and more will be on sale at the field.
