FAIRFAX, VA - The George Washington University softball team opened its fall season with three games at the George Mason Tournament on Saturday, September 27. The Colonials picked up an 8-1 victory over Morgan St. and a 7-4 victory over Mount St. Mary's while losing to George Mason 10-0.
Freshman Melanie Lewis (Charlotte, NC/Independence) started on the mound for GW against Morgan St. and pitched three strong innings before the game was stopped due to the time limit. She only gave up one hit, while striking out two. Freshman Kristin Dimeo (West Orange, NJ/Montclair Kimberley) had a solid game with two hits, including a triple, and a walk in her three at-bats.
Freshman Jennifer Hrycyna (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) got the victory for the Colonials with a 7-4 victory over Mount St. Mary's. Sophomore Elana Meyers (Douglasville, GA/Lithia Springs) had a double and two walks for GW, while fellow sophomore Jennifer Lawrence (Nassau, NY/Columbia) had a single and scored two runs. Freshman Katy Harrigan (Reading, MA/Reading Memorial) tallied a triple and scored a run for the Colonials.
