GW Softball Adds Two More Players for 2014 Season
Bradleigh Breland, Mary Wiley Will Join Colonials Next Fall
Feb. 19, 2013
WASHINGTON - Two additional players will join the George Washington softball team for the 2014 season, head coach Stacey Schramm announced today.
Bradleigh Breland is an outfielder from Memorial high school in Houston, Texas. She is a three-time all-district honoree, including first-team as a freshman and junior. Breland batted .484 with nine extra-base hits and 21 RBIs last season while stealing 29 bases in 31 attempts, earning Offensive Player of the Year. She is also a three-time academic all-district selection and two-time team MVP.
"Bradleigh is a very exciting player to watch," said Coach Schramm. "Her elite speed is a real weapon and it is evident in everything she does on the softball field. She covers a lot of ground in the outfield, and she is very dangerous at the plate and on the bases."
Mary Wiley is a first baseman/outfielder from Old Tappan High School in Harrington Park, N.J. She batted .512 as a junior, the second-highest single-season average in Old Tappan's history, with 11 doubles, two triples and 31 RBIs. Wiley is a two-time first-team all-county selection, and she also earned second-team all-section honors last season. Wiley boasts a career .447 average and .700 slugging percentage.
"Mary is a natural left-handed hitter with a lot of offensive potential," said Coach Schramm. "She is very strong with great power tools. She also sees the ball well enough to hit for average and get on base at a high level. She is a very good athlete for her size and brings a lot of versatility to GW."
Breland and Wiley will join Jillian Galich, Paige Kovalsky, Megan Linn, Monica Macchiarulo, Marissa Mangini and Madison Myers-Cook, who all signed National Letters of Intent to become Colonials in November.
