WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball team's home-opening doubleheader against Drexel has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus due to rain expected in the Washington area on Tuesday.
GW (2-6) will then host the Colonial Classic this weekend, with Dartmouth, Bucknell and Seton Hall participating in the three-day tournament.
The Colonials will honor the Sandy Hook Elementary School victims during Saturday's games. GW staff and players will wear special T-shirts and conduct a 50/50 raffle at each contest with all proceeds going toward the NSA/We Are Newtown Memorial Scholarship fund, which was set up by the father of incoming freshman Monica Macchiarulo, a native of Newtown, Conn.
Carolina Classic All-Tournament Team Announced: Freshman Carlee Gray and junior Courtney Martin were named to the Carolina Classic All-Tournament Team, the University of North Carolina announced on Sunday.
Gray went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs, including the winning score in the top of the eighth inning, in GW's 5-4 victory over North Dakota State in the tournament opener on Thursday. Martin earned her first win of the season against the Bison, allowing just one run on five hits and striking out a career-high eight batters in six innings in relief.
