NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Sarah Costlow of George Washington softball was named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday on the heels of her successful California homecoming. In addition, Elena Shelepak picked up conference Player of the Week honors from CollegeSportsMadness.com.

Pitching in her hometown, Costlow picked up two wins in three starts at UC-Riverside's Amy S. Harrison Classic. The senior hurler allowed six earned runs in 18 innings for the week, including complete-game victories against Montana on Friday and New Mexico on Sunday.

Costlow’s best performance came in the tournament finale when she held the Lobos without an earned run to help GW win, 5-2. She worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning to improve to 4-0 on the season.

It’s the third A-10 Pitcher of the Week honor of Costlow’s career but first in nearly two years. She also won the award on March 28, 2016 and March 16, 2015.

Shelepak hit .500 (8-for-16) over five games in California. The sophomore from New York had two home runs, two doubles, four RBIs and scored five runs to pace GW’s offense. She equaled her career high with three hits in a win over New Mexico on Friday and then did it again in Saturday’s victory over Montana.

GW is back in action Wednesday for its home opener. The Colonials host Howard for a noon doubleheader at GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
