WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University sophomore Jackie Yaniga (Miami, FL/Southwest Miami) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, after leading the Colonials to a doubleheader sweep against Georgetown and their first ever tournament title at the Colonial Classic last week. GW won five games overall to run its record to 7-3 on the season.

Yaniga, who twice earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors last year as a freshman, is the first Colonial to earn A-10 weekly honors this season.

Against the Hoyas, Yaniga went 6-for-6 with six RBI, four runs scored, two doubles and a triple to help GW sweep the doubleheader, 12-0 and 17-0. This past weekend at GW's home Colonial Classic tournament, Yaniga helped the Colonials win 3-of-4 games to claim the championship. GW defeated Colgate (8-2) and Bucknell (8-0) on Saturday, before defeating Drexel, 9-1, in six innings to win the tournament on Sunday.

In four games at the tournament, Yaniga posted five hits, six RBI, scored three runs and had a double and her first home run of the season. She had her team-leading seven-game hitting streak snapped in the Colonials' second game against Drexel on Sunday, March 5.

Yaniga currently leads GW with a .481 average, 12 RBI and a .815 slugging percentage.

The Colonials (7-3) return to the field when they take on Towson in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, March 8, beginning at 2 p.m. at Mount Vernon Softball Field.
