Katie Miller Named Atlantic 10 Softball Player of the Week

March 17, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC - The Atlantic 10 conference announced Monday afternoon that George Washington University senior Katie Miller (Manteo, NC/Manteo H.S.) has been named the conference Player of the Week. This is the first-ever conference honor ever received by Miller and she is the third different Colonial to receive a weekly award this season.

Miller batted a perfect 5-5 and had a pair of home runs in two games against Atlantic 10 rival La Salle Thursday afternoon. The native of Manteo, NC went 3-3, just a triple from the cycle, in the opener, an 8-1 victory over the Explorers. She also drove in three runs, scored twice, stole a base and drew a free pass. Her three-hits in game one matched a career high.

The senior also homered in the nightcap, going 2-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. She also was walked in the second half of the doubleheader.

For the season, Miller is now batting .378 with a team-high four home runs. She also leads the Colonials with a .784 slugging percentage and 29 total bases, and is also second on GW with 10 runs, three doubles, and nine RBI.

Miller and the Colonials travel to A-10 rival Saint Louis Saturday, March 22 for a 2:00 pm doubleheader, the second twinbill of an eight-game road trip. GW (5-8, 1-1 Atlantic 10) returns to Mount Vernon Softball Field Wednesday, April 2 for a 3:00 pm doubleheader against Towson. The twinbill versus the Tigers was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 27 but was postponed due to unplayable field conditions.
