WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball team continues its month-long homestand on Thursday when it hosts UMBC for a single game. First pitch from GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus is slated for 3 p.m.

GW (11-18-1, 0-2 A-10) dropped both games of its Atlantic 10-opening doubleheader to defending A-10 champion Fordham on Saturday. Sophomore Meghan Rico tossed a complete game in a 2-0 loss in Game 1, and sophomore Morgan Matetic hit her second home run of the season in the nightcap.

Freshman Megan Linn is batting a team-best .340 and leads the Atlantic 10 with 33 hits on the season while ranking second in steals (12), third in runs scored (20) and fourth in RBIs (21). Junior Victoria Valos, who is hitting .321, leads the A-10 and ranks 12th in the nation with 12 doubles and she is third in the league in total bases (48) and tied for fifth with 20 RBIs.

Rico owns seven of GW's 11 victories on the year, third-most in the A-10, and she leads the conference with 99 strikeouts.

UMBC (19-9) went 2-3 at last weekend's UMBC Spring Classic. Taylor Hall is batting a team-best .400 and slugging .694 with seven doubles, six home runs and 29 RBIs, and Chelsea Bertoglio is hitting .346 with 10 extra-base hits and 23 RBIs. Jessica Holte paces the Retrievers in the circle with an 11-3 record and a 1.63 ERA.

The all-time series between GW and UMBC is tied 6-6. The teams last met in 2012, a 7-4 win for the host Retrievers, who have taken three of the last four meetings.

Following Thursday's game, the Colonials will host Atlantic 10 rival Massachusetts for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. and non-conference for Morgan State in a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
