WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball team steps out of Atlantic 10 Conference play for a pair of mid-week non-league games against UMBC and Drexel. The Colonials will visit the Retrievers on Tuesday at 2 p.m. before hosting the Dragons at Mount Vernon Field on Thursday at 2 p.m.

GW (9-19) has lost three straight following a doubleheader sweep at the hands of reigning A-10 champion Fordham on Sunday. The Colonials' lone hit in the first game, a 2-1 setback, was a home run by freshman Victoria Valos, and sophomore Courtney Martin suffered the tough-luck loss after allowing just one earned run on five hits. Junior Tara Fogarty hit her first career homer in the nightcap to account for GW's only run in a 5-1 decision.

Senior Lauren Wilson is batting a team-best .313 with 19 runs scored, while junior Autumn Taylor leads the Colonials with seven home runs and 18 RBIs. Senior Kara Clauss (6-11) paces GW on the mound with a 2.75 ERA and 62 strikeouts.

UMBC (12-14) is coming off a 4-3 win over defending America East champion Albany in the finale of a three-game set on Monday. Sophomore Jessica Warner went 3-for-4 to lead the Retrievers at the plate. She is batting a team-best .363 with six doubles, eight homers and 18 RBIs. In addition, senior Katie Ferguson (8-6) boasts a 2.49 ERA with 72 strikeouts.

GW is 5-4 all-time against UMBC, including a doubleheader split last season at Mount Vernon Field.

Drexel (10-13) is coming off a doubleheader split with James Madison on Sunday. Junior Jenn Reading homered twice, and senior Hillary Allen tossed a complete game shutout. Sophomore Comfort Ahonkhai leads the Dragons offensively with a .340 average, while Reading has hit a team-best five home runs and senior Paige Collings has driven in 20. Allen (6-6) has posted a 3.84 ERA with 47 strikeouts.

GW is 1-1 all-time against Drexel, and the teams' only previous meeting was a doubleheader in 2006.
