WASHINGTON - Marta Fuentes' bases-loaded single in the ninth inning Saturday evening gave George Washington softball a 4-3 win over La Salle and a doubleheader sweep. The Colonials rallied with two runs in the seventh to send the game into extra innings before securing the walk-off victory.

Earlier in the day, GW knocked off the Explorers, 12-10, on the Mount Vernon Campus after Sierra Lange's tie-breaking, two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Colonials have won four straight Atlantic 10 games to get to 6-5 in the conference and 26-13 overall.

Lange continued a strong run at the plate and in the pitching circle. The freshman from Texas went 3-for-3 with two homers and five RBIs in the opener and then singled and scored as part of the seventh-inning rally in the nightcap.

Lange was the starting pitcher the opener and later returned to the game to close out the win before picking up the victory in relief in the second game. For the day, she allowed one run over her 6 1/3 innings.

Jenna Cone smacked a pair of long balls in the opener, as well. The sophomore from California's had a three-run homer to left in the first inning and then followed up with an opposite-field solo shot in the second inning. She added a single in the second game to extend her on-base streak to 23 games.

GW 12, La Salle 10: The Colonials raced out to a 10-1 lead through two innings and then found a way to take the opener after the Explorers stormed back to tie it.

GW put up five runs in each of the first two innings, highlighted by the two home runs from Cone and the three-run blast from Lange. The Colonials rolled up 11 hits in all over those two frames to chase La Salle starter Marlo Roadcap.

All nine starters in GW's batting order recorded hits in the game, paced by multi-hit efforts from Lange, Cone Marta Fuentes, Priscilla Martinez and Morgan Rinehart. Elena Shelepak had a double and two walks and scored three times.

GW needed Lange's heroics after allowing nine unanswered runs by La Salle between the fourth and sixth innings. She returned to the game as pitcher to get the Colonials out of trouble in the sixth and then followed with her second homer of the game to break the tie in the bottom of the inning. In the seventh, she worked around a two-out double to close out the victory.

GW 4, La Salle 3 (9 innings): The Colonials turned it on late to complete the doubleheader sweep.

GW trailed 3-1 heading into the seventh inning before beginning the comeback. Lange singled to lead off the frame and scored on Rinehart's double to the left field gap. Pinch hitter Alessandra Ponce's one-out single brought home Rinehart with the tying run.

Lange followed Sarah Costlow's seven innings in the circle and retired all six batters she faced to put the Colonials in position to win it. They took advantage in the ninth with four straight singles to plate the game-winning run.

Morgan Rinehart chopped one through the left side with one out and then moved up on infield singles by Rochelle Draper and Sidney Bloomfield before Fuentes slapped a single back up the middle to end the game.

Fuentes, Rinehart and Bloomfield had two hits apiece, while Costlow turned in a quality start to keep the Colonials close, allowing three runs on four hits over her seven frames.

ON DECK: The series concludes Sunday morning with a single game beginning at 9 a.m. The start time has been pushed up due to rain in the forecast later in the day.
