Softball Adds Doubleheader Against Virginia

April 19, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University softball team has announced that it has added a non-conference doubleheader against the University of Virginia Cavaliers, scheduled for Wednesday, April 20, at 3 p.m. at the GW-Mount Vernon Softball Field.

GW (9-21, 4-4 A-10) is coming off a doubleheader split against A-10 foe Dayton on Saturday, April 16, at the GW-Mount Vernon Softball Field last time out. The Colonials shut out the Flyers in the opener, 2-0, as they were led by freshman pitcher Jen Hrycyna's (North Brunswick, NJ) complete-game, five-strikeout performance and an RBI single from left fielder Katie Miller (Manteo, NC). In the nightcap, Dayton nipped GW, 2-1, in nine innings.

UVa, meanwhile, is fresh off taking 2-of-3 from North Carolina on April 16-17 in Chapel Hill to improve to 20-25 overall, 7-4 in the ACC. The Tar Heels took the opening game of the series, 4-1, but the Cavaliers rallied to win 2-0 in the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday, before edging UNC, 3-2, on Sunday.

The Colonials played Virginia twice this past Fall at the Cavalier Fall Classic in Charlottesville, VA, on Oct. 3. UVa triumphed in both games, 4-2 and 8-0 in five innings. In addition, first-year Colonials head coach JoAnne Ferguson served as an assistant coach at UVa from 1997-2000.

The GW-Mount Vernon Softball Field is located at 2100 Foxhall Rd., NW, Washington, DC.
