WASHINGTON - George Washington senior designated player Amanda Zakeri was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 2 First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday. Zakeri now advances to the national ballot where she will compete for Academic All-America recognition.
Zakeri became GW's all-time leader in stolen bases (70) this season, and also matched her own single-season record with 27 steals in 2013, ranking second in the A-10. The leadoff hitter also paces the Colonials in on-base percentage (.492) and walks (36) and ranks third in runs scored (29). Her 36 walks are the second-most in a season at GW and also rank second in the league. In addition, Zakeri matched GW's single-game record when she stole three bases at Rhode Island on April 20.
For her career, Zakeri ranks fifth all-time at GW in on-base percentage (.401), third in walks (54) and sixth in runs (63).
Zakeri excels in the classroom, as well, maintaining an impressive 3.74 grade-point average as an exercise science major. The native of Toledo, Ohio, is a two-time NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and has been recognized on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll all seven semesters.
