WASHINGTON, DC - Senior Elana Meyers (Douglasville, GA/Lithia Springs) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 First Team, it was announced today. This is the second consecutive year that Meyers received this honor. The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) select the Academic All-District and All-America teams for both University (D-I and D-I AA) and College (D-II, D-III and NAIA) Divisions. By virtue of being voted First Team All-District for the University Division, Meyers is now eligible for the Academic All-America ballot. In 2006, Meyers was named to the CoSIDA Academic America First-Team.

Meyers, who garnered A-10 Softball Student-Athlete of the Year laurels for the second year in a row, hit an impressive .413 this year to go with 3 home runs and 25 RBIs. She also led the Colonials to their first-ever Atlantic 10 Championship in 2007 as GW finished 23-27 overall and 9-11 in Atlantic 10 competitions.

Meyers concluded her collegiate career with 202 base hits, and a .356 batting average, both are Colonials records.

In the classroom, she is a eight-time member of the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, a two-time Arthur Ashe Jr. Softball First Team Sports-Scholar and has been a member of the GW Athletic Department Dean's List every semester. At GW's annual Senior Honors Luncheon on May 3, Meyers earned her fifth straight team MVP honor after leading the Colonials in nine offensive categories.

Meyer's is believed to be the first player in NCAA history to be named both a five-time team MVP and team captain.
