WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University senior third baseman Elana Meyers (Douglasville, GA/Lithia Springs) has earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team honors, announced by the NFCA on Wednesday. Meyers is now eligible for the NFCA All-America ballot.
Meyers, who last week was named First-Team All-Atlantic 10, as well as the conference's Co-Student-Athlete of the Year with fellow First-Team All-Region selection, Adrienne Repsher, led the Colonials in 2007 in several offensive categories.
She finished as the team leader in batting average (.413), runs (26), hits (59), doubles (14), RBI (25), total bases (82), slugging percentage (.573) and on-base percentage (.485). Meyers finished second in the Atlantic 10 in overall batting average, but hit an astonishing .532 in conference-only games, which led the conference. In her final home game as a Colonial, Meyers recorded her 200th career base hit and crushed the game-winning grand slam, which propelled GW to its first-ever Atlantic 10 Tournament.
Meyers closed out her collegiate career with a .356 batting average on 202 base hits. In addition she recorded 32 doubles, 15 triples, 11 home runs, 70 RBIs to go with a .523 slugging percentage and .430 on-base percentage in 192 games.
In addition to her 2007 conference accolades, Elana was also named an ESPN The Magazine Academic First Team All-District performer. With her First Team selection, she became eligible for the Academic All-America ballot.
In the classroom, Meyers is an eight-time member of the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, a two-time Arthur Ashe Jr. Softball First Team Sports-Scholar and has been a member of the GW Athletic Department Dean's List every semester. She earned a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science in December 2005 and is currently in pursuit of a master's degree in Exercise Science.
