WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University junior shortstop Elana Meyers (Douglasville, GA/Lithia Springs) has been voted to the ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-America softball squad, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Meyers, the 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Student-Athlete of the Year, was one of just four infielders selected to the First Team in the University Division.

Meyers became eligible for the CoSIDA national Academic All-America ballot after being voted a First Team All-District performer.

Since the close of the GW's best season in program history, Meyers has collected a number of accolades inlcuding becoming the first Colonial in softball history to earn Atlantic 10 All-Conference and NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team honors, as she led the team in 2006 in nearly every major offensive category.

She finished as the team leader in batting average (.414), runs (39), hits (65), doubles (13), triples (7), RBI (29), total bases (104), slugging percentage (.662) and stolen bases (22). Meyers also led the A-10 in triples and finished second overall in average, stolen bases and total bases in starting every game at shortstop for the Colonials as they set a record for most victories in a single season with 24.

In addition to being voted one of two First Team All-Conference selections at shortstop, Meyers also garnered Academic All-Conference accolades for the second consecutive season.

Meyers has also been just as impressive in the classroom as on the field, as she is a six-time member of the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, a two-time Arthur Ashe Jr. Softball First Team Sports-Scholar and has been a member of the GW Athletic Department Dean's List every semester. She earned a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science in December 2005 and is currently in pursuit of a master's degree in Exercise Science in Clinical Exercise Physiology.
