WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University softball players Elana Meyers (Douglasville, GA/Lithia Springs) and Rebecca Schumer (Baltimore, MD/Pikesville) will join 12 others to form a Metro Washington, D.C. "Dream Team" which will play an exhibition softball game against the Greek Olympic team on Sunday, July 18, at College Park, MD.

The softball team that will represent Greece at the Olympics in Athens next month will make a stop-over in the Washington, D.C. area during its East Coast tour in its ongoing preparations for the Summer Games. The Greek team will play an exhibition against an all-star contingent from the Washington, DC area at the University of Maryland Softball Stadium.

The games will give people in the area a chance to experience Olympic excitement first-hand and get up close with the 18 women who will compete from August 14-23 in the fast pitch competition that will represent the sport's third appearance in the Olympics. The Greek team is coached by Linda Wells, currently the head coach at Arizona State University. The Greek team also features former George Mason standout and Falls Church, VA, resident Christa Dalakis.

The Greek team - known as "Hellas" - will play a doubleheader at the University of Maryland Softball Stadium beginning at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $10 for the 90 reserved seats located behind home plate. For tickets, contact Jack Mowatt at 301-621-7152 or by e-mail at DCASA@erols.com. Fans can visit www.dcasa.org for more information.

GW softball, led by first-year head coach JoAnne Ferguson, plays its home games at the Mount Vernon Softball Field, 2100 Foxhall Road, in northwest Washington.
