WASHINGTON - George Washington head softball coach Stacey Schramm today announced that former Florida Atlantic standout Stephanie Call will join the Colonials' staff as an assistant coach.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Stephanie to the team," Coach Schramm said. "She has played at a high level and has surrounded herself with some of the most elite coaches in the nation. Stephanie's main responsibility will be to oversee the pitching staff; however, as a power hitter in college, Stephanie will be able to work with our hitters as well. We are extremely appreciative to the athletics administration for providing us an opportunity to hire a second full-time assistant. We are raising the bar higher each year, and I'm excited for Stephanie to be a part of something so special."

Call played two seasons at Florida Atlantic and was a team captain in 2013. She earned Second-Team All-Sun Belt honors as a senior, when she batted .298 and led the Owls with nine doubles, seven home runs and 31 RBIs while also pitching to a 9-10 record with a 3.22 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 128.1 innings of work.

Prior to FAU, Call played her first two collegiate seasons at N.C. State, breaking the Wolfpack's single-season home run record with 14 as a sophomore. For her career, Call batted .314 with 28 home runs.

Call has also played for the Stratford Brakettes for the last three summers. She hit 31 home runs in 2011, breaking a 20-year-old team record. This past summer, Call led the Brakettes with a .533 average and 89 RBIs while also pitching to a 27-0 record with a 0.42 ERA and 235 strikeouts in 150 innings, and she was named MVP of the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) Fastpitch World Series.

Call has served as an instructor at several softball camps on the East Coast, and she was also an assistant coach for the 18U Gold Lady Gators.

In addition, during her time as a student-athlete, Call spearheaded a number of athletics department community service initiatives, and she was also a member of both the ACC and Sun Belt Academic Honor Rolls.

"I look forward to coaching with Coach Schramm and Coach Sperl to help bring GW Softball to the top of the A-10," Call said. "I'm extremely excited to work with the athletes each and every day helping the GW program grow to new heights. This is a wonderful opportunity to help those around me become successful while doing a job that I absolutely love."

A native of Lake Worth, Fla., Call graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, and she is currently pursuing her master's degree in leadership and research methodologies from FAU.
