WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball team will host scrimmages in back-to-back fall weekends and will travel for a third, facing teams from around the region in preparation for the 2013 spring campaign, third-year head coach Stacey Schramm announced today.
The fall schedule kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 22, when the Colonials host Georgetown in a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. at GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus. The following weekend, GW will take on Shepherd at 10 a.m. and Mount St. Mary's at 11:30 a.m. in a round-robin tournament on Sunday, Sept. 30; Shepherd and the Mount will play each other at 1 p.m.
GW concludes its fall slate at Maryland the weekend of Oct. 13-14. The Colonials will face Towson on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., followed by a game against Delaware State at 4:30 p.m. The next day, GW will again take on the Hornets at 10 a.m. before facing the host Terrapins at 12 p.m.
The Colonials enjoyed the most successful campaign in program history in 2012, reaching the Atlantic 10 championship game for the first time and producing a nine-win improvement from the previous season for a school-record 25 victories. GW returns 13 letterwinners from that squad, including A-10 All-Rookie selection and team MVP Victoria Valos.
