Softball Opens Fall Season on Saturday

Sept. 20, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington softball team opens its fall portion of its schedule on Saturday, September 22, at the Mount Vernon Softball Complex, located at 2100 Foxhall Road, NW. The Colonials will take on the Georgetown Hoyas at 11:00 am, and the UMBC Retrievers at 3:00 pm. The Hoyas will face the Retrievers at 1:00 pm.

GW is coming off its best season in the five-year history of the program by advancing to its first-ever Atlantic 10 Tournament. The Colonials, led by Head Coach Kim Staehle, went 23-27 in 2007, and set a single-season record with 38 home runs.

The Colonials return seven starters from last year's roster, including senior co-captains, Colleen Kegler and Caroline Howe. Fellow seniors Chrysanthi Halkiotis, Jackie Yaniga, and Katie Miller also return to the veteran squad.

Sophomore Amanda Gabriel will anchor the pitching staff in 2008, after setting every single-season pitching record in her freshman season.

This weekend will also mark the debuts of freshmen pitcher Ali Pardo and third baseman Katie Terrazas.
