Softball to Host December Clinic
GW elite youth camp set for Dec. 3
WASHINGTON - George Washington softball has announced plans to host an elite youth clinic on Dec. 3.
Head Coach James DeFeo and his staff, as well as current GW softball student-athletes, will provide the instruction at GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus and Lloyd Gymnasium for campers ages 12-18. The day will be broken into four 90-minute sessions, including pitching/catching, hitting and defense before closing with a simulation showcase of live game conditions.
The pitching clinic will focus on proper mechanics, pitch movement and increasing velocity, as well as the mental aspects of pitching. Pitching participants must bring their own catcher, who will be able to attend the session free of charge. Catchers will learn the proper way to receive, frame and block a pitch, while also training in throwing mechanics, footwork and pitch calling.
The hitting and slapping session will emphasize fundamental mechanics, including increasing power, bat speed, proper balance and footwork, and the mental side of hitting.
The defensive session is open to infielders and outfielders interested in working on positional breakdown, proper mechanics and footwork, angles, glove work, throwing and situational instruction.
The day finishes with a game simulation showcase in which campers will be divided into teams for live action.
The cost for a single session is $75 with discounts for multiple sessions purchased. Space is limited. (Camps are open to any and all entrants, limited by age, gender and numbers.)
To register before Nov. 24, complete the registration form and mail, along with payment, to George Washington University Softball, Attn: James DeFeo, 600 22nd St. NW, Washington D.C., 20052.
After Nov. 24, email assistant coach Hallie Blackney at email@example.com stating which sessions you plan to attend.
For more information, contact DeFeo (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Blackney via email.
