Colonials' 3.22 team GPA ranked 30th among 82 reporting D-I Institutions in 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University softball team had five athletes earn National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) 2004-05 Academic Scholar-Athlete honors, as announced by the NFCA this week. As a team, the Colonials' 3.22 cumulative grade-point-average ranked 30th best among 82 reporting Division I Institutions.

Junior Elana Meyers (Douglasville, GA), along with sophomores Lisa Cohen (Langhorne, PA), Jen Hrycyna (North Brunswick, NJ), Katy Harrigan (Reading, MA) and Katie Miller (Manteo, NC) each earned NFCA Academic Scholar-Athlete accolades for the 2004-05 season. Meyers also became the first GW player last year to garner A-10 Academic All-Conference honors.

In order to be recognized as an NFCA Academic Scholar-Athlete, an individual must achieve a 3.5 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale.

GW, which completed just its third year of softball in 2005, posted a program-best 10 victories and a season-high five conference wins en route to a sixth-place finish in the A-10 last year. The Colonials open their 2006 campaign at home when they host the four-team GW Challange Tournament, Feb. 25-26, at the Mount Vernon Softball Field.
