GW Women's Squash Advances With 6-3 Win Over Middlebury

Freshman Breanne Flynn picked up her team-leading 14th win of the season in GW's 6-3 win over Middlebury on Friday.

PRINCETON, N.J. - The No. 11 George Washington women's squash team defeated No. 14 Middlebury in the opening round of the Kurtz Cup (B-Division) at the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Nationals on Friday afternoon at the Jadwin Squash Courts.

GW (12-5) advances to face No. 10 Brown on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. in the semifinals. The Bears knocked off No. 15 Williams, 7-2, to reach the semifinal round.

The Colonials won the top three matches on the ladder, two of them in straight sets, and added wins at Nos. 5, 7 and 9 to defeat the Panthers for the second time this season. GW also prevailed, 7-2, over Middlebury on January 26 at the Yale Round Robin.

Both sophomore Anna Gabriela Porras (No. 1) and freshman Breanne Flynn (No. 2) cruised in straight sets in their respective matches. Porras won 11-6, 11-6, 11-9 over Abby Jenkins while Flynn earned her team-best 14th win of the season with an 11-7, 11-5, 11-6 sweep of Charlotte Dewey.

At No. 3, sophomore Alejandra Porras earned a four-set victory over Annie Wymard by scores of 11-5, 13-11, 8-11, 11-8 for her 12th victory of the season.

Sophomore Emely Levyn provided what was the match clincher at No. 5 with an 11-9, 10-12, 11-6, 11-7 win over Tiff Hau to put the Colonials up 5-2.

Also earning wins for the Colonials was sophomore Eunice Tan (11-7, 11-5, 11-4) at No. 7 and freshman Mehak Chawla (11-6, 11-2, 11-3) at No. 9.



GW will look to avenge its loss earlier this season to Brown on Saturday afternoon. The Bears defeated the Colonials, 6-3, on January 12. Flynn, Anna Gabriela and Alejandra Porras all provided victories in the last meeting.
