No. 13 Women's Squash Tops Virginia in Kurtz Cup Opener

PRINCETON, N.J. - The No. 13 George Washington women's squash team knocked off Virginia, 7-2, in its opening-round match of the Kurtz Cup (B-Division) at the College Squash Association (CSA) Women's Team Nationals on Friday at Princeton's Jadwin Squash Courts.

GW (8-8) will face Dartmouth in Saturday's semifinals at 5:00 p.m. Dartmouth swept Middlebury, 9-0, in Friday's first round.

The Colonials got a lift from all four freshmen on Friday as each rookie earned 3-0 sweeps throughout the ladder. Engy El Mandouh outlasted her opponent in the the first two games of a 12-10, 12-10, 11-2 sweep of Tara Arya at No. 2 to lead the way.

Emma Tryon (11-6-, 11-7, 11-7 at No. 4), Elle Carroll (11-8-, 11-6, 11-5 at No. 6) and Samira Baird (12-10, 11-8, 11-7 at No. 8) followed Mandouh's lead.

Senior Breanne Flynn cruised in her match at No. 1, easily dispatching Carey Danforth by scores of 11-4, 11-3, 11-8.

Also picking up wins for the Colonials was junior Abby Shonrock (11-5, 12-10, 11-4 at No. 5) and sophomore Brooke Feldman (11-3, 11-6, 11-4 at No. 9).
