LANCASTER, PA - The George Washington University men's and women's squash teams opened its 2004-05 season over the weekend with the women defeating the University of Virginia, 5-4, Friday afternoon and the men losing to Franklin & Marshall, 8-1, on Saturday.

The Colonials' women's squad trailed 4-2 before winning their final three matches to grab the victory at UVA's North Grounds Recreation Center.

Junior Maggie Alexander (Sherborn, MA/Middlesex) and sophomores Rachel Giuliano (Penn Valley, PA/Harriton) and Helene Seydoux won GW's last three matches to put the Colonials at 1-0 for the season.

Senior Samir Patel (Media, PA/Episcopal Academy) earned the only victory for the GW men against the Diplomats at Franklin & Marshall's Alumni Sports and Fitness Center. The Colonials fell to 0-1 on the year.

Both the men's and women's teams are back in action this weekend as the men travel to Annapolis, MD for a tournament Saturday at Navy. The women play in a tournament on Sunday hosted by Haverford College in Lancaster, PA.
