Dec. 2, 2012
HARTFORD, Conn. - The No. 12-ranked George Washington women's squash team split two matches on Sunday afternoon, defeating No. 21 Colby, 9-0, before falling to No. 3 Trinity, 9-0.
GW (5-2) concludes the fall portion of its schedule on Saturday, as the Colonials will host No. 4 Princeton at the Matthew J. Grossman Squash Courts at Lerner Health & Wellness Center.
The Colonials picked up their third win in a row in convincing fashion, sweeping Colby in straight sets at each position on the ladder. It marks the third time this season, and second time this weekend, that GW won all nine matches in straight sets.
The top three of freshman Anna Gabriela Porrras, Jackie Shea and Kelly Barnes set the tone at the top of the ladder and the rest of the lineup followed. Freshman Alexa Tzarnas picked up her fifth career win, tied with Porras for the lead among rookies.
In the nightcap, No. 3 Trinity rolled to a 9-0 win. Junior Jackie Shea was the lone Colonial to take a game, but ultimately fell, 8-11, 11-3, 11-0, 12-10.
Following Saturday's match with Princeton, the Colonials will take a one-month break from competition. They will head to the Grand Cayman Islands for a winter training trip and will play Wellesley College on Jan. 11.
