No. 19 GW Women's Squash Stuns Amherst, Advance to Walker Cup Final

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The No. 19 George Washington women's squash team stunned No. 18 Amherst, 5-4, to advance to the championship match of the Walker Cup (C-Division) on Saturday afternoon at the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Nationals at Harvard University. GW (12-9) earned four crucial victories at No. 4-No. 7, led by five-set triumphs from senior Tiffany Hingley and sophomores Maya Nair and Elizabeth Tapley. Hingley sprinted out to a 2-0 lead over Sarah Nyirjesy at No. 6 but dropped the next two sets before prevailing 11-9 in the fifth. Nair topped Lena Rice at No. 7, 11-8, 10-12, 10-12, 11-6, 11-9 while Tapley dropped the first two sets before rebounding for a 9-11, 8-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-9 win over Evelyn Kramer at No. 4. Also recording victories for the Colonials was sophomore Jackie Shea at No. 1 (11-6, 12-10, 11-6) and senior Caroline Shumway at No. 5 (12-10, 11-9, 11-8).
