Omar Sobhy Leads GW Squash at CSA Individual Nationals

AMHERST, Mass. - Junior Omar Sobhy won four matches in three days to advance to the championship match of the Malloy Cup (B Division) at the College Squash Association Individual Championships, but fell in the finals against Vishrab Kotian of Trinity on Sunday afternoon.
Sobhy, who entered the tournament as the 35th-ranked player in the CSA, defeated opponents from Colby, Rochester, Williams and Penn on the way to his second consecutive appearance in the Malloy Cup finals. Last season Sobhy became the GW squash program's first ever national champion with a victory over Matt Domenick of the University of Rochester.
Shea had a first-round bye in the Holleran Cup but fell in her first match against Alexandra Lunt of Princeton. The GW women's No. 1 player responded by winning the consolation bracket finals with a 11-4, 11-7, 11-8 win over Rachel Au of Cornell.
Barnes also fell in the opening round of the Holleran Cup but bounced back to win her first match in the consolation bracket 11-5, 11-9, 11-1 over Kiran Vasudevan.
El-Fiky finished 0-for-2 with losses in the A-division draw.
