GW Squash's Anna Gabriela Porras Named CSA All-American
Freshman Is First Player in Program History to Earn the Honor
March 29, 2013
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Freshman Anna Gabriela Porras of the George Washington women's squash team has been named a College Squash Association (CSA) Second Team All-American, the organization announced on Friday.
Porras is the first player in the history of the GW Squash program, male or female, to garner All-American honors.
A native of Bogota, Colombia, Porras led the women's squash team this season with 16 individual victories against just four losses in her debut collegiate season. She played all of her matches in the No. 1 position on the ladder and was the only player to win all three of her matches at CSA Women's National Team Championships in February.
Porras closed the season on an eight-match win streak and won 15 of her 16 matches in straight sets. After the regular season, she went 2-2 as she competed in the Ramsey Cup (A-Division) at CSA Individual National Championships.
Porras is just one of four non-Ivy League players to be named an All-American on the 20-member First and Second Teams. She finishes the season as the No. 10 ranked player in the final CSA/Dunlop Women's Individual Rankings for 2012-13.
