Women's Swimming Edged By Army in Home Finale, 125-114

WASHINGTON, DC - Despite six event titles, including three which they swept the top two finishers, the George Washington women's swimming & diving team was edge by Army in their home finale Friday, 123-114 at Charles E. Smith Athletic Center.

Paola Leor won both the 100 and 200-yard freestyle in 52.48 and 1:55.60, respectively. In the 100-yard, Leor was followed shortly after sophomore Katrina Timlin (55.24) in second place. A freshman out of Miami, FL, Leor also anchored the victorious 200-yard medley relay (1:50.61) along with freshman Caitlin Brewer, as well as juniors Ariana Berdini and Jessica Miga.

Berdini also took home an individual tile on the day, capturing the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.71. Fellow junior Lauren Fuchs followed Berdini in second place, touching the wall in 1:09.09. Fuchs also took second in the 200-yard IM (2:15.46) to teammate Emily Leik, who touched in 2:13.77.

Freshman diver Sarah Landry won the 3-meter dive, accumulating 237.38 points in her six dives. Landry took second in the 1-meter dive with 233.03 points.

Friday afternoon's meet was also the final home meet for seniors Molly Moss and Andrea Martin. Both graduating seniors shared in a third place finishing 200-yard medley relay team, while Moss also earned a fourth and sixth place finish, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. Martin finished seventh in the 200-yard freestyle and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle.

 

 

The Colonials conclude their regular season schedule with a dual meet at George Mason Saturday, Feb. 2 at 1:00 pm in its final tuneup before the Atlantic 10 Championships (Wed.-Sat., Feb. 20-23 in Buffalo, NY)
