Dec. 2, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington swimming and diving fell to the Old Dominion Monarchs in the Colonials home opener on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Emily Leik posted two first-place finishes, while seniors Jeff Cohn and Dan Mahoney, and freshman Stephen Cosme all won individual events for the men.

Leik took first in both the 200-yard I.M (2:12.39) and 200-yard backstroke (2:13.33). She also swam a leg of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay along with sophomores Jessica Miga and Luciana Maggiolo, and senior Shannon Ma. Miga and Maggiolo also teamed with sophomore Ariana Berdini and junior Molly Moss to win the 400-yard medley relay.

Cohn and Mahoney won the 200 and 500-yard freestyles respectively in 1:41.95 and 4:53.20. Both seniors also anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay team along with freshman Rick Rogers and sophomore David Zenk to a first place finish.

Cosme helped GW sweep first and second place in the 500-yard free, finishing just behind Mahoney in 4:57.11. He also was victorious in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:00.15.

The Colonials will be back in action on January 12-13 at the URI Invitational to take on conference rivals Rhode Island, Massachusetts and La Salle.
