For a schedule of all GW Varsity Athletic events, check out the Super Scoreboard.
The George Washington gymnastics team travels to Morgantown, W.Va., for a tri-meet with EAGL rival No. 25 WVU and Towson. It's the second road meet during a six-meet, 4,000-plus mile road swing for the Colonials.
Junior Stephanie Stoicovy and freshman Courtney Willoughby earned spots on the podium in the all-around for the second week in a row with second and third place finishes at No. 12 Ohio State on Jan. 21.
Stoicovy currently ranks sixth in the EAGL in the all-around, averaging 38.700, while Willoughby ranks 10th, averaging 38.375.
The George Washington men's and women's swimming teams return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 27 for their final dual meet of the 2011-12 season at local rival George Mason. The meet is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Jim McKay Natatorium.
The GW men's squad is coming off an impressive 141-113 dual victory over district foe Georgetown last Saturday in Charles E. Smith Center Pool. The Colonials won all but two events in the meet.
Junior Phillip Graeter paced the Buff and Blue with first-place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard backstroke, 400-yard individual medley and the 400-yard medley relay, capping an undefeated season at Smith Center Pool. Senior Marshall Seedorff posted first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and 400 free relay and a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay in the final home meet of his career
The women's team posted first- and third-place finishes in the 400 free relay to earn a come-from-behind 132-129 victory over the Hoyas last weekend. Sophomores Caroline Myers and Lindsay Moore paced GW with four and three victories, respectively. Myers took home top honors in the 1,000 and 500-yard free events, the 400 IM and the 400 free relay.
Coming off its first Atlantic 10 Championship since 1979 and the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, the George Washington men's tennis team opens the 2012 spring season with a match at Old Dominion on Friday, Jan. 27, before heading to the William & Mary Tribe Kickoff Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 28 and Sunday, Jan. 29.
The match between the Colonials and the Monarchs is set for Friday at 3 p.m. at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va.
At the Tribe Kickoff Tournament, in Williamsburg, Va., the Colonials will face Dartmouth and host William & Mary on Friday, followed by a match with Big Ten foe Iowa on Sunday at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
"We have never beaten any of the teams we face this weekend, so we have a lot to prove," said reigning A-10 Coach of the Year Greg Munoz. "We had some strong performances in the fall against a tough schedule, so I think we are going to show that we are a stronger team than ever."
The George Washington women's tennis team kicks off its 2012 season against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday, Jan. 29 at the Montclair Country Club in Montclair, Va. The Colonials closed out the 2011 fall season with a 5-0 unblemished mark, the best start as a team under eighth-year head coach Dawn Buth.
Saint Francis holds a record of 0-2 having dropped back-to-back matches to Navy and Drexel last weekend. The Red Flash visit nearby UMBC on Saturday, Jan. 28 before making the trip to Montclair on Sunday.
The No. 14 George Washington women's squash team returns to action with a quartet of matches against ranked opponents at the Maine Round Robin this weekend. The Colonials will travel to Lewiston to face No. 21 Tufts on Friday, followed by No. 9 Bates and No. 13 Mount Holyoke on Saturday. The Colonials will complete the weekend against No. 19 Bowdoin in Brunswick on Sunday.
GW (6-5) snapped its five-match losing streak with a dominant 9-0 victory over St. Lawrence at the Matthew J. Grossman Squash Courts on Jan. 19. The Colonials won each match in straight sets and impressively allowed only two Saints players to reach nine points in any respective game.
Six players are tied for the team lead with six individual victories on the season.
The No. 17 George Washington men's squash team will resume its spring schedule with a trip north to compete in the Maine Round Robin. The Colonials will face Tufts University in Lewiston on Friday before a doubleheader on Saturday against Boston College and No. 18 Bates. GW will finish the weekend on Sunday against No. 22 Bowdoin in Brunswick.
El-Fiky and Sobhy have been consistent in the top two spots of the ladder, combining for 21 victories this season. El-Fiky has totaled 11 wins, all at the No. 1 position, while Sobhy has notched 10 victories at the No. 2 spot on the ladder.
