Swimming & Diving To Compete in Atlantic 10 Championships Feb. 20-23

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University men's and women's swimming & diving teams will travel to Buffalo, NY to compete at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championships, Feb. 20-23 at the Flickinger Aquatics Center. In 2007, the Colonials' men finished seventh at A-10's, while the women finished ninth. Massachusetts will look to defend their men's crown, while Richmond will shoot for its Championship-record seventh straight women's title.

Junior David Zenk, the recipient of the Most Outstanding Performer and Rookie awards in 2006, looks to build on his record-setting performances in the 200-yard individual medley (1:49.38) and 400-yard individual medley (3:54.94) at last season's championship. The native of St. Louis, MO, has won an impressive 19 of 21 (90.5%) individual races this season. Zenk will be challenged heavily by Fordahm sophomore Ryan Coombs, the 2007 Rookie of the Year, and Saint Louis senior Brad Byars.

Juniors Ariana Berdini and Lauren Fuchs will led the GW women in the breaststroke events this week. The pair placed ninth and tenth, respectively in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2007. Freshman Paola Leor will also be a presence to be reckoned with this week as she holds the GW record in the 100-yard freestyle.

The championship commences at 4:30 on Wednesday, Feb. 20, with the trials of the men's one-meter diving compettion, followed by the finals of the men's and women's 200-yard medley and 800-yard freestyle relays at 6:30 pm, along with the finals of the men's one-meter diving competition. The Championship continues at 10:30 am on Thursday with the time trials, followed by the finals at 6:30 pm. The same schedule will be followed on Friday and Saturday.
