WASHINGTON, DC -Head coach Dan Rhinehart is pleased to announce that Andrew Maguire and Katrina Timlin will lead the Colonials Men's and Women's swimming programs as Captains for the upcoming 2009-2010 season.
Maguire, a Junior from Westford, Massachusetts, is coming off of a breakout 2008-09 season. At the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championships, Maguire was a three-event finalist scoring in the 200 Breaststroke (4th), 100 Breaststroke (11th), and 100 Butterfly (11th). He also helped the Colonials post a 5th place finish in the 400 yard medley relay. Maguire currently holds three times in GW's All-Time Top Ten (5th in the 100/200 Breaststroke and 8th in the 100 Butterfly).
"Andrew is a phenomenally hard worker. Last season, he made some huge leaps forward with his times and conference placings, which is a testament to all of his hard work," said Rhinehart. "Andrew sets the bar high every day whether it is in practice, the weight room, or the classroom. With such a large incoming freshman class, I look forward to seeing what this team can accomplish under his leadership."
Timlin, a senior from Winchester, MA, also had a stand out season. At the 2009 A-10 Championships, she helped set two school records as a member of both the 200 Freestyle Relay (splitting a 23.91, for a record time of 1:35.93) and 400 Freestyle Relay (splitting a 52.57, for a record time of 3:31.17.) Individually, she competed in the 50 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, and the 200 Breaststroke. Timlin posted a 3rd-place finish in the consolation finals of the 100 Breaststroke (1:06.87), 21st in the 50 Freestyle (24.60), and 17th in the 200 Breaststroke (2:27.65.)
"Katrina is someone who we can always rely on. She is a true example of what GW Swimming is all about. Her teammates can always count on her to get the job done both in the water and in the classroom. I know she has the ability to lead this team in the upcoming season," said Rhinehart.
