GW Swimming Programs Named CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams
Colonials Earn Academic Honors for Spring 2014 Semester
July 10, 2014
WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's and women's swimming programs have both been named College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Teams for the 2014 spring semester, the sport's governing body announced in conjunction with Nike Swim on Thursday.
It marks the second time this academic year that both GW squads were honored, and the Buff and Blue have earned the award for four years for a total of eight straight semesters.
The CSCAA Scholar All-America Team honor is presented to college and university swimming and diving programs that have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. This spring, the Colonials' women's squad boasted a combined GPA of 3.46, while the men's side recorded a 3.05 GPA.
"As our athletic achievements continue to grow in the pool, success in the classroom is always a priority for our teams," said Head Coach Dan Rhinehart. "Academic excellence is a top goal for GW Athletics and I am proud of our accomplishments this season and look forward to continuing our commitment to Raise High in the classroom."
Following the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championships in February, 2014 graduates Caroline Myers and Jake Mortensen, in addition to rising senior Adam Rabe, were named to their respective A-10 Academic All-Conference Teams. Additionally, Mortensen was recently named a recipient of an A-10 Postgraduate Scholarship, and rising junior Lauren Steagall earned the university's distinguished Outstanding Academic Achievement Award for being in the top two percent of sophomores in GW's School of Business.
The GW women's program saw 11 student-athletes named to the Spring 2014 A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the men's team landed three on the list. Both teams were also honored for achieving a perfect 1000 score for Academic Progress Rates for the 2012-13 academic year.
The CSCAA Team Scholar All-America Award is presented twice annually, once following the fall semester and again at the completion of the spring semester.
