GW Women's Swimming's Hannah Schaefer Named A-10 Rookie of the Week
Freshman Nabs First Conference Honor of 2012-13 Season
Oct. 16, 2012
Competing in just her second career meet, Schaefer helped the Colonials to a dominating performance at last weekend’s tri-meet against American and Catholic to garner her first-ever conference accolade. GW took home top honors with a total of 239 points as the Buff and Blue won all but one of the 13 events.
Schaefer earned her first two career wins at the tri-meet in the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes. In the 100 back, the Jacksonville, Fla., native touched the wall in 1:01.90, 3.12 seconds ahead of AU’s second-place finisher. She also won the 200 back in 2:13.46, 3.7 seconds ahead of second place.
Schaefer finished second out of 23 competitors in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:15.91 and clocked in at 2:00.12 in the 200-yard freestyle for a third-place finish.
Schaefer and the Colonials return to action on Saturday, Oct. 27, when the squad hosts UMBC for its first dual meet of the season. Action inside Smith Center Pool is scheduled for 1 p.m.
