NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After leading the George Washington women’s swimming team with three first-place finishes against Bucknell on Saturday, freshman Janica Lee was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday.

“I am really happy with how Janica has been performing this year,” said head coach Dan Rhinehart. “Coming from Canada, she is used to swimming meters as opposed to yards, so she doesn’t even realize how well she is doing.”

In just her fourth meet of her collegiate career, Lee cracked the GW record books when she posted two all-time top-10 performances.

Lee posted a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:23.18, good for eighth all-time on GW’s record list. Her time of 1:06.86 in the 100-yard breaststroke landed Lee in a tie for 10th all-time.

The Mississauga, Ontario, native also swam the second leg of the first-place finishing 200-yard medley relay team that clocked in at 1:49.74.

The Colonials return to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 29 with a dual meet at UMBC. Action is slated for 1 p.m.
