Nov. 14, 2012
FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Washington men's and women's swimming teams travel to nearby George Mason on Thursday, Nov. 15 for the three-day 13th annual Patriot Invitational at Jim McKay Natatorium.
Action is set to begin on Thursday with preliminary heats starting at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m. The same schedule of events will be followed on Friday and Saturday.
The Colonials will compete in the 10-team field against the host Patriots, district rivals American and Howard, fellow Atlantic 10 member Richmond, Ohio, Seton Hall, UMBC, UNC Wilmington and NCAA Division II Shippensburg.
"The Patriot Invitational is a great meet and it serves as a trial run for the Atlantic 10 Championships in February," said15th-year head coach Dan Rhinehart. "We use this meet as a measuring stick to see how everyone is doing thus far into the season. We see what we need to work on and how we need to improve before the conference meet."
GW enters the Patriot Invitational following consecutive dual meets against UMBC, Drexel and Towson. Prior to those dual-meet competitions, the Colonials competed at the six-team Potomac Relays as well as a tri-meet with American and Catholic.
At last season's Patriot Invitational, the GW women's team finished fifth out of eight teams with a total of 399 points, and the men's side finished in fifth with 119 points.
