GW Women's Tennis Falls to Maryland, 6-1, in Season Opener
Pascarella Wins at No. 2 Singles for Colonials

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The George Washington women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at nearby Maryland on Saturday morning in the squad’s season opener.
Senior Leah Pascarella earned a victory at the No. 2 spot with a 4-6, 6-2 (10-6) win over Alexandra Stanova.
Maryland took an early 1-0 lead by claiming the doubles point. GW’s No. 1 duo of freshman Grace Egger and sophomore Lana Robins fell to Kristina Hovsepyan and Welma Luus, 5-8, while rookie Allison Hansen and Pascarella were edged by Nataliya Bredikhina and Olga Bredikhina, 6-8, at the No. 2 spot. The No. 3 sophomore tandem of Christina Carpenter and Stephanie Wei fell to Olivia Gaudreault and Stanova, 5-8.
At No. 1 singles, Robins dropped a tight 5-7, 5-7 decision to Hovsepyan. Wei fell to Luus, 3-6, 3-6, at No. 3 and Egger fell to N. Bredikhina, 4-6, 3-6, in the No. 4 match. In the fifth flight, sophomore Egle Jakuciunaite was defeated by Olga Gaistruk, 6-7 (3), 1-6 and freshman Taylor Nederlander fell at No. 6 in a tiebreaker to Goudreault by scores of 2-6, 6-2 (6-10).
The Colonials return to the court with an 11 a.m. match at Navy on Saturday, Feb. 1.
