MONTCLAIR, Va. – The George Washington women’s tennis team blanked Saint Francis (Pa.), 7-0, in its season opener at Montclair Country Club on Sunday afternoon. The Red Flash fall to 0-4 on the year while the Colonials improve to 1-0.

Sophomore Leah Pascarella and senior Zoe Krohn, and the doubles pairs of Krohn and junior Mimi Hamling and Pascarella and sophomore Isabella Escobar, held their opponents scoreless.

In the No. 1 singles spot, Pascarella defeated Lucy Jasso of Saint Francis, 6-0, 6-0. Senior Jacqueline Corba beat Shivani Patel, 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 2 spot, and Hamling took down Alexandra Sachs, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 3 spot.

Escobar defeated Nuria Valls, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, and Krohn blanked Devynn Sarver, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 spot. At No. 6, senior Meg Tyner rolled past Laura Husband, 6-1, 6-0.

Hamling and Krohn teamed up in No. 1 doubles play and defeated Jasso and Sachs, 8-0. Escobar and Pascarella beat Patel and Valls, 8-0, in No. 2 action, and Corba and Tyner defeated Sarver and Husband, 8-1, in the No. 3 spot.

GW returns to the court on Saturday, Feb. 4, for a rescheduled match at Old Dominion. Action is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
