GW Women Continue Their Tough Schedule

Feb. 1, 2003

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The GW women's tennis team was defeated 5-0 by a tough Maryland squad on Saturday, February 1 at the Montclair Tennis Club. Coach Helen Andrews said, "we continue to improve our play and the level of competition can only help the women as the season progresses."

Senior Tracy Wei (Marietta, GA/Walton Comprehensive) was unable to break into the win column losing her singles match, 6-3, 6-1, to Maryland number one Emily Marker and losing with doubles partner, senior Samantha Fisher (Greenwich, CT/The Benjamin School), 8-2. Junior Nazli Gencsoy (Istanbul, Turkey/Lyree de Galatasaray) also had a tough day losing to Ramona But, 6-1, 6-0 and in doubles with sophomore Sevla Gonca (Ankara, Turkey/Bilikent) 8-5.

The Colonials return to the court on Saturday, February 8 against La Salle in Washington, D.C.
