NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The George Washington University women's tennis team fell to Old Dominion, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon in its spring season opener at the Center Court Racket Club.
The Monarchs swept the doubles point to lead 1-0 early on as they captured matches at the first and third positions by scores of 8-1, respectively, while winning at No. 2 by a margin of 8-4.
In singles play, ODU continued its winning ways by sweeping all six matches, including five in straight sets. Sophomore Tracy Stecko (Lake Forest, IL) captured the first set, 6-4, against Fernanda Luiz at No. 3, but lost 6-0 in the second set and 1-0 (10-2) in the third-set tiebreak.
The Colonials return to action when they host Maryland-Baltimore County on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 1 p.m. at Montclair Country Club.
