GW Women's Tennis Drops Tight 4-3 Match to Old Dominion
Feb. 4, 2012 NORFOLK, Va. – The George Washington women’s tennis team dropped a close 4-3 match to Old Dominion on Saturday morning at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va., in a rescheduled match between the two squads. The Colonials fall to 1-1 on the year while the Monarchs improve to 3-0. Seniors Jacqueline Corba and Meg Tyner paced the Buff and Blue with individual singles wins and a No. 3 doubles victory. In the No. 2 singles spot, Corba won a three-set match over ODU’s Melissa Esnal Olguin. Corba dropped the first set, 6-7 (3), before bouncing back to win the next two sets, 6-3, 6-3. Tyner nearly blanked Fait Atiso in No. 6 singes play, winning by scores of 6-0, 6-1. The duo then paired up in No. 3 doubles play to defeat Juliana Pires and Atiso, 8-3. Sophomore Leah Pascarella dropped the No. 1 singles match to Diana Ivanova, 7-5, 6-0, and junior Mimi Hamling fell 6-3, 6-2 to Pires at the No. 3 spot. In No. 4 singles action, sophomore Isabella Escobar fell to Aleksandra Mitrovska, 6-3, 6-4, and senior Zoe Krohn fell 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 5 match. The duo of Pascarella and Escobar earned a 9-7 victory over Mitrovska and Khmolovska in No. 2 doubles. The No. 1 pair of Hamling and Krohn fell to Ivanova and Olguin, 8-2. GW continues its road swing with matches at West Virginia and Drexel next Saturday and Sunday. Action in Morgantown, W. Va., is set for 1 p.m. on Feb. 11, followed by a 1 p.m. match in Philadelphia, Pa., on Feb. 12.
