Women's Tennis Defeats Howard, 6-1
Freshman Kendall Swenson improves to 2-0 with victory at No. 1 singles

MONTCLAIR, VA - The George Washington women's tennis team earned its first dual-match win of the season with a 6-1 victory over Howard on Friday, Feb. 4, in a non-conference match-up at the Montclair Country Club. Freshman Kendall Swenson (Shaker Heights, OH) improved to 2-0 on the season with a win at No. 1 singles to lead GW.
In doubles play, the Colonials surged out to a 1-0 lead by sweeping all three matches. Juniors Sandra Simunic (Westerville, OH) and Anastasia Skavronskaia (Miami, FL) cruised at No. 1 with an 8-1 triumph over Kristin Harris and Courtney Dorsey to propel GW to the early advantage.
GW secured its first win for first-year head coach Dawn Buth by winning 4-of-5 singles matches to close out the Bison. Swenson topped Harris at the top spot, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-1), while classmate Michelle Alexander (Charlotte, NC) defeated Dorsey in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2 for her first collegiate dual-match win. The Colonials were also victorious at the No. 4-6 positions as freshman Tracy Stecko (Lake Forest, IL), and sophomores Leah Woodard (Wellesley, MA) and Mara Frisch (Tucson, AZ) each notched their respective first victories of the spring campaign.
